Patient, Precise Work on the Papers That Matter
Heirlune was established in George Town to fill a gap that many families encounter: the months or years of paperwork that accumulate around a household or estate, with no clear system and no time to sort it properly.
← Return to HomeHow Heirlune Came to Be
Heirlune grew from a simple observation. When a family in Penang sat down to locate documents belonging to an elderly relative, they found three decades of papers in six different boxes — tax receipts, property correspondence, insurance schedules, certificates and photographs — all unsorted, unlabelled and without any index. The relatives spent weeks going through them before their solicitor appointment, and still arrived uncertain that they had found everything.
The people behind Heirlune had spent years working in records management and administrative support across the region. They recognised that what that family needed was not legal help — the solicitor handled that — but something that almost no one offers: a careful, methodical person who could sit with the boxes, sort the contents by type and date, rehouse fragile items properly, scan everything and produce a register that any family member could use to find a specific document in seconds.
That is still what we do today. Our work is administrative in every respect. We do not advise on succession, interpret documents or take any action on a family's behalf beyond organising and describing what we find. We make no claims about outcomes. What we offer is a well-kept register, a properly housed set of originals and a searchable digital copy.
Our office is on Persiaran Gurney in George Town, a neighbourhood chosen for its quiet character and proximity to many of the families we serve. The work is done by a small team — people who understand that handling someone else's personal papers requires discretion as much as skill.
We serve families across Penang and the surrounding region, and offer the Terminology and Resource Library as a remote subscription to households anywhere in Malaysia. The library was developed because we kept meeting people who felt uncertain about the vocabulary of succession paperwork — what a distribution order is, what a letter of administration covers, where to find the official forms — and who wanted to read and understand these things in plain language before engaging any professional.
Our mission is straightforward: leave every set of papers we touch in a state that can be understood, navigated and handed on to the next generation without confusion. We measure success by whether a family member who did not sort the documents with us can find what they need, in the register, within two minutes.

How We Work
Consistent practices applied to every engagement, regardless of size.
Item-Level Registration
Every document receives a unique reference number before it is moved, scanned or filed. No item leaves intake without being logged.
Archival Rehousing
Fragile and aged documents are rehoused in acid-free sleeves and labelled folders. We follow standard archival practice for paper and photographic material.
Searchable Digital Register
The register produced for each engagement is searchable by document type, date range, keyword and personal name, and is delivered in a format the family can use without specialist software.
Discretion and Confidentiality
All material seen during an engagement is treated as private. Staff sign a confidentiality agreement covering every engagement. Digital files are transferred to the family only.
Double-Check on Completeness
Before handover, a second staff member reviews the register against the physical collection to confirm no item has been omitted from the index.
Scope Transparency
We state clearly what our work does and does not cover. We do not offer legal, financial or succession advice. Where a document raises a question outside our scope, we say so and suggest the family consult an appropriate professional.
What We Stand For
Estate and personal records are among the most meaningful things a family holds. A title deed, a letter from a grandparent, a photograph of a home no longer standing — these items carry weight that goes beyond their administrative function. Heirlune approaches every box of documents with that weight in mind.
We believe careful organisation is a form of respect for the people who created a record and the people who will one day need to read it. An indexed, well-housed collection is a practical asset — it reduces the time and stress involved in any administrative process — but it is also a form of care passed from one generation to the next.
Our work is administrative only. We do not interpret succession documents, advise on how to proceed with any process or make representations on a family's behalf. We keep that boundary firm because it protects the families we serve: clear scope means no confusion about what has and has not been decided.
George Town, where Heirlune is based, has a long tradition of meticulous record-keeping across its many communities. We see our work as part of that tradition — helping families maintain the kind of order that makes a collection usable across generations, rather than an accumulation that becomes a burden.
